Palembang govt holds first riverside international jazz festival

Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA) - The government of Palembang City, South Sumatra, held the world’s first riverside international jazz festival at the Kuto Besak Fortress in Palembang on Saturday, November 30, attracting thousands of people.

The event, the Suara Musi International Jazz Festival 2024, was initiated by Ucok Abdul Rauf Damenta, the Acting Mayor of Palembang for the June–November 2024 period.

The newly inaugurated Acting Mayor of Palembang, Cheka Virgowansyah, expressed his appreciation on Saturday for Damenta, who had initiated the event and made a significant contribution to its success.

“This event will undoubtedly be a blessing for Palembang City. Let us appreciate it by enjoying the event peacefully,” he remarked at the festival, held by the Musi River.

Several performances were featured at the Suara Musi International Jazz Festival 2024, including Indonesia’s jazz icon since the 1980s, Fariz RM; the World Jazz Society; Mengara Jazz Project; Imaniar Feat. Idham Noorsa'id; Marion Jola; and other jazz musicians.

In addition to performances by international and national jazz musicians, the event also showcased local talent from Palembang and traditional cultural arts performances representative of the city.
