Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait said his ministry has prepared housing assistance for victims of floods and landslides in Sumatra.
In a Thursday statement, he said ministry teams are working on-site to map the housing needs of affected communities. He also reaffirmed readiness to assist regional governments in managing post-disaster recovery.
Sirait noted that the determination of relocation sites rests with local governments, but the ministry will provide technical support to ensure decisions are safe and suitable.
"We support local governments with our technical expertise, ensuring that proposed relocation areas are safe and remain close to schools, hospitals, markets, and residents' workplaces," he said.
To speed up housing recovery, the ministry has prepared Simple Healthy Instant Houses (RISHA) for immediate use by affected residents.
"In Medan, we have more than 400 units on standby, and around 100 units in Bandung. If necessary, we are ready to increase the supply," Sirait said.
He added that coordination between ministries and local administrations will be intensified to ensure rapid and well-organized recovery efforts.
Sirait said he has deployed three director generals to inspect housing conditions in flood- and landslide-affected areas. He also instructed his teams to move quickly to ensure assistance reaches residents as soon as possible.
