North Musi Rawas, S Sumatra (ANTARA News Sumsel) - Floods inundated thousands of homes located along the bank of Rawas River, Rawas Ilir Sub-district, North Musi Rawas District, South Sumatra Province, on Thursday.
Flood waters, which had submerged five sub-districts since Feb 15, 2019, subsided as rains slowed down. Only Rawas Ilir is still inundated, Zulkifli, head of the North Musi Rawas District, said here on Thursday.
In Rawas Ilir, floods affected 1,802 homes in eight villages, namely Mandi Angin, Beringin Makmur I, Tanjung Raja, Belani, Batu Kucing, Pauh, Pauh I, and Bingin Teluk.
In addition, tens of hectares of rice fields were also flooded in North Musi Rawas.
Flooding submerged rice fields measuring seven hecatares in Karang Jaya village, three hectares in Bukit Langkap, 27 hectares in Embacang Lama, and 40 hectares in Bingin Rupit, Suhardiman, head of the North Musi Rawas agriculture office, noted.
He, however, was optimistic that the crops would survive the flooding that lasted for only one day.
On Feb 17, 2019, floods had inundated 32 villages in five sub-districts in North Musi Rawas, following incessant heavy rains since Friday.
Two rivers, namely Rawas and Rupit, spilled over their banks and flooded the villages.
Indonesia is currently experiencing the peak of rainy season that triggered flooding in several provinces.
