Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA) - South Sumatra Province recorded the highest daily increase in the number of coronavirus cases on Saturday (May 9) when it confirmed 51 new cases to take the total to 278.
The new cases were found in Palembang, Lubuklinggau, Lahat, Musi Rawas, Prabumulih, Ogan Ilir, OKI, Musi Banyuasin and Banyuasin, spokesman for the South Sumatra Province Task Force for the Acceleration of COVID-19 Handling, dr Zen Ahmad said on Saturday night.
"The transmission (of COVID-19) to the three of the 51 new cases today is being investigated, while the rest are infected through local transmission," he said.
South Sumatra reported 278 cases of the coronavirus, 49 recoveries and nine fatalities as of Saturday (May 9, 2020).
The task force reiterated its call for the public to adhere to the social distancing and physical distancing policies to prevent the COVID-19 from spreading to public areas such as markets and ,malls.
"There is not need to stay outdoors to meet together for unclear purposes. If they are forced to stay outdoors they must keep a distance of at least two meters from other people that they are talking to and wear masks," he said.
He said to reduce the number of coronavirus cases all parties must work together.
A total of 150 of the new cases were found in Palembang,35 in Lubuklinggau, 15 in Banyuasin, 13 in Prabumulih, 12 in Ogan Komering Ilir and 11 in Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU).
