Palembang turns athlete dormitory into emergency hospitol

Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA) - The South Sumatra Provincial Administration has turned Jakabaring athletes dormitory into an emergency hospital with 900 rooms to accommodate COVID-19 positive patients, people under monitoring (ODP) and patients under surveillance (PDP).

South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru and other local officials visited the emergency hospital, here, on Sunday.

The emergency hospital could accommodate up to some 2,000 people.

The Indonesian government has also turned a Wisma Atlet (Athlete Dormitory) in Kemayoran, Jakarta, into Emergency Hospital for COVID-19. Some 215 patients were receiving treatment at the Emergency Hospital, as of March 26.

There were 124 male and 91 female patients undergoing inpatient care at the hospital. The patients include 14 persons who tested positive for COVID-19, 44 persons placed under surveillance (ODP), and 157 patients under monitoring (PDP).

In the meantime, Indonesia recorded 109 new COVID-19 cases as of Saturday, taking the total case count in the country to 1,155, with 59 patients recovering and 102 others dying of the disease, according to the COVID-19 Response Task Force.

The increase in the number of new cases suggests coronavirus transmission has continued in the community, government spokesperson for COVID-19 handling, Achmad Yurianto, said during a press conference in Jakarta, on Saturday.

Of the total confirmed cases, 627 were reported from Jakarta and 119 from West Java Province, he noted.
