Palembang, S Sumatra (ANTARA Sumsel) - State-owned construction firm PT Waskita Karya will be injected again with a fund of Rp880 billion by the government in building the Light Rail Transit (LRT) strategic project in Palembang, South Sumatra.

Head of Palembang LRT project from Waskita Karya Mashudi in Palembang on Sunday said that the fresh fund could at least facilitate the cash flow.

The company needed the fresh fund which is expected to be disbursed at the end of the year because it first had to bail out its cost after the government made the first term payment of Rp999.7 billion.

As it is known that the company is borrowing money to a third party to bail out the project so it is also burdened with interest.

"Yes, it is hoped that by the end of this year there will be an additional fund because the realization of the project per November is already 70 percent," said Mashudi.

The construction of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) railway line in the city of Palembang as of November has reached 70 percent after completing almost one hundred percent of the flyovers.

With this achievement, the company is optimistic that the work will reach 80 percent progress until the end of the year or in accordance with the target projections.

"For the elevated highway there are several points, namely at Polda regional police intersection, Angkatan 45 interection and Palembang Icon Mall intersection." It is estimated that the work at the three points is completed by the end of the month," Mashudi said.

He said the narrowness of the working area on the road median is one of the causes that hamper work from being accelerated. The community`s need for passing by is also a major consideration in the development of the national strategic infrastructure project which is aimed to support the Asian Games.

But regardless of the issue, Waskita Karya can at least breathe a sigh of relief because the crucial work at Ampera Bridge is almost complete. Currently workers are busy installing parapet walls that are expected to be completed next week.

"Currently the work is in accordance with the projections, and hopefully there would be no more many obstacles ahead so that it can meet the target," said Mashudi.

Development of LRT Palembang has been carried out since the end of 2015 to support the needs of the city as host of the Asian Games XVIII 2018.

The Rp10.9 trillion project is focusing on 13 stations as well as pedestrian bridges and rail tracks (LRT tracks) to be tested in February 2018.
