Palembang, S Sumatra, Nov 1 (ANTARA Sumsel) - The South Sumatra provincial city of Palembang will modify a Navy warship into a floating hotel for the participants and guests of the 2018 Asian Games.

Chairman of the South Sumatra Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association Herlan Aspiudin remarked here on Wednesday that the Palembang city government will receive a Navy ship as a grant and will be modified into a floating hotel.

According to Aspiudin, the local government will form a team to modify the ship.

"I am part of the team that will modify and design the Navy ship into a floating hotel to accommodate the participants and guests of the Asian Games," Aspiudin remarked.

He said thousands of guests from several countries will visit Palembang next year to witness the international sporting event; hence, the floating hotel will enable them to enjoy the beauty of Musi River.

Musi is the longest river in South Sumatra Province and has a length of 750 kilometers.

Water tourism holds significance for the people of Palembang as an arena of water transportation. This is apparent from the several boats transporting people across the river.

In addition, the Port of New Boom and the Museum of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II are located on the banks of the river.

Owing to its beauty, this river is not simply a means of transportation but is also a tourist attraction.

Tourists visiting this place usually start arriving in the afternoon until evening to witness the scenic sunset.

At the location, tourists can witness house rafts, which are typical houses in Palembang. (O001/INE)
