Palembang, South Sumatra (ANTARA Sumsel) - The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) is still promoting the potential of tourism in South Sumatra in various places at home and abroad, Chairman of the South Sumatra branch of PHRI Herlan Aspiudin said.

"We need to continue promoting the potential of tourism in 17 districts/cities in the province of South Sumatra to both local and foreign tourists," Aspiudin remarked here on Monday.

He pointed out that the province of South Sumatra had great potential for river-based, cultural, historical, and religious tourism, which needed to be intensively promoted at home and abroad.

According to him, the promotion is being handled through brochures providing information on tourist attractions in the province. The brochures are given to the guests of hotels and restaurants and to PHRI business partners at home and abroad.

In addition, an exhibition and comparative study is being held in Vietnam this month to further promote the area.

Aspiudin added that intensive promotion of South Sumatra`s tourism potential was necessary to attract as many local and foreign tourists as possible to the province, which is gearing up to host the Asian Games in 2018.
