Palembang, S Sumatra, May 23 (ANTARA Sumsel) - Construction of Musi IV bridge in Palembang is to be completed in 2017 to support the role of this South Sumatra capital city in hosting the next Asian Games in 2018.
Head of the regional public works service Syamsul Bahri said he was optimistic the construction the bridge spanning the Musi river in the city could be completed as scheduled.
Currently work is already 20 percent completed, Syamsul said here on Tuesday.
"Pillars are already implanted while continui8ng the process of land clearing," he said, adding, land clearing has been 85 percent completed.
The 635 meter bridge is designed to be 12 meters and 16.88 meters above the surface of the river.
The bridge project to cost around Rp518 billion would reduce the burden of the Ampera bridge, also spanning the Musi river, and so far the only access to the sports complex of Jakabaring Sport City.
